Introspective Reverie

(musings of an introvert) In my youth, I was the embodiment of weird—chatty, awkward, and enchanted by the realms of poetry, fable and literature. A crowd pleaser, I was not. Lost in my own world, a solitary kingdom, I painted and played, embracing the solitude. To this day, I remind myself that fragrant flowers bloom even in the depths of the night. Now as an adult, I understand those quirks little more, with a recent diagnosis of ADHD, those roots take shape with much more clarity. The ebb and flow of being both sociable and easily overstimulated, my sensitivity to loud music and big crowds, and the perpetual struggle with small talk—now, they all fall into place. Granting myself the permission to seek respite when my social cup overflows has brought me peace. Embracing the sanctuary of my “darkness,” retreating into my personal kingdom I discover a center that allows the blossoming of flowers and paints silence with vibrant hues. It is here that I have come to realize the unexpected truth—I am an introvert, concealed beneath layers of societal expectations
